I was so grateful to grow closer to Derek over the last several years, spending time with him whenever I came home to Bristol to visit Rick and Jocelyn. Derek was a great brother and son, a great friend, extremely generous, always cheerful and making everyone laugh. Every time I saw him, no matter how long it'd been, he was always sure to bust my chops over whatever happened the last time we'd been together before we'd launch into some spirited debate on politics or history. I was always blown away by how intelligent and knowledgeable Derek was. I'm lucky I got to see him this summer after not being able to visit home for almost 2 years due to Covid-19. Rest easy my man. Love, Drew

My condolences to Derek's friends and family. I am sad to hear of his passing. When I first met Derek this past summer at work he was a personable man. I know greater things were still coming his way. In our conversations and interactions at work he demonstrated great skill and wisdom. He was a leader, a hard worker, he had a charitable heart, and I consider him a brother and friend. It is sad to lose great men. Until we meet again. I pray for all of those whom encountered you during your time on earth to cherish the moments and time you were in their presence and to teach those who may not have met you of the things you represented. Amen Amen and Amen. -Respectfully, Raymond F. Kane

Derek and I became instant friends when we met at work ten years ago. We haven't worked together in seven years but we still stayed friends and I came to consider him one of my best friends. He is and was everything people are saying about him. I witnessed first hand how he would do anything for anyone no matter what. We had a lot of fun and some long conversations over the years and I've never seen him happier than the last few months. I will miss our conversations and I will miss you for life Derek. Thank you for being a great friend.

It is an immense sense of loss for someone gone so soon. I have had the distinct pleasure and honor to know the Galego family for over 40 years and to have known Derek since his birth and to see now the pain and anguish his mom and dad and the rest of his family and friends are going through is heart wrenching. Derek will be forever loved and missed and the Galego family have their guardian angel to protect and guide them as life moves forward...I love you all..may God bless the Galego family and may Derek rest in paradise. Goodbye my friend..until we meet again.

Derek was a great friend and I think we had a unique relationship. We went on many vacations together, the bahamas, new hampshire... he was so much fun to be around, and fit in so well with our family. He had a unique sense of a humor and very contagious laugh. Over the course of life Derek and I would always end up running into each other, and seeing each other in random places. He never changed, always asked about how my family was doing, how my parents and sister were. Every time I saw him it was like time had stood still since the last time I saw him. Seeing him always made me happy and brought a smile to my face.. I'm going to really miss you Derek. Rest in peace brother...
