Obituary For Donald Alfred Fitting

Donald Alfred Fitting. Sr., 87. Donald passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on December 24, 2020.

Born November 30, 1933, he was the son of the late George N. and Antoinette (Picard) Fitting.

He was married for 66 years to his loving wife Barbara (Correia) Fitting.

Besides his wife he is survived by his four children Maryann Habershaw and her husband Steven of Lutz, Florida. George Fitting of Warren, RI, Kathleen Fitting Blackmar of East Providence, RI and Donald A Fitting Jr. and his wife Holly of Bristol, RI, 8 grandchildren, Scott Habershaw and his wife Krissy, Neil Habershaw and his wife Aileen, Chad Habershaw, Ian Blackmar and his wife Victoria, Katelyn Blackmar, Jacob Fitting, Barbara Fitting, and Jillian Fitting and 2 great grandchildren Colin and Andrew Habershaw. All loved and respected their Pop Pop. He is also survived by his brother, Russell Fitting of West Chester, PA, and a sister, Theresa Costa of Warren, RI.

Donald was a life long resident of Warren, RI and was also a resident of The Villages Florida. He was first employed by Kinder Bros Tree Service before moving to Narragansett Electric where he worked for 39 years. He started as a Lineman and worked his way up the ranks, and retired as a District Manager. He retired to his dream job at Swansea Country Club where he enjoyed sharing the projects he was working on with his children & grandchildren, and was an avid golfer with Seven Holes in one which his grandchildren admired.

Donald was an active life long member of St. Mary of the Bay Church. He served in the Army National Guard for Charlie Company 118th engineer battalion, He was a member of Engine 3 Volunteer Fire Company, Miller Street, Warren, Warren Zoning Board Member, and St. Vincent DePaul Society. Donald volunteered his time to the Carmolite Sisters in Barrington, RI, as well as Sisters of Saint Dorothy in Bristol RI. Donald will be most remembered by his unwavering determination, love and discipline which he shared and taught all his children and grandchildren. Donald was a wonderful role model as a Husband, Father, and Grandfather, he will always be in our memory and live on in each one of us!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 10AM, in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, Visiting Nurse Home & Hospice, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871. All donations received will be used to purchase smoke detectors or emergency alert systems for families.

    Dear George, Donny, Kathy and Mary ann. as well as Mrs Fitting (Barbra) . Another Narragansett Fire Co.member gone.. Donald was a Lt. when i joined the company in1973.. Very stern with us younger members (including George) But always kind and very fare about everything to do with Engine 3.. Donald ran the Bar at the company Clambake and was behind the counting table at every Turkey Roll. Always on task and always concerned about the details of every social event engine 3 ran. A true gentlemen, Im certain he is having a cold one with Hank, sammy and Eddie Correia..I offer my deepest sympathies RIP Donald.. You were a true Narragansett and a very dedicated member..
