Obituary For Harry Andersen

Harry Andersen, 92, of Warren passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 28, 2022. A son of the late Anders and Allie (Henriksen) Andersen and the loving husband of Edith (Whitehead) Andersen for 69 years. Harry, or "Grumps", as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, grew up in Providence and graduated from Hope High School where he played ice hockey. He continued his net minding duties well into his 50's. A US Navy veteran, he served on an ice breaker during the Korean War and finished his service at Naval Station Newport RI. He trained as a Journeyman Carpenter under his father's tutelage and built the home in Warren where he and Eadie (Grams) raised their family. He was the Vice President at Bruce Diamond Corporation in Attleboro, MA, captained an off shore fishing vessel then launched his own diamond tool manufacturing company, Coneset Corporation in East Providence. Harry loved the ocean and was an avid sailor winning innumerable regattas in the Snipe, International 110 and Herresoff S Classes. He owned his own Lobster boat, aptly named the Edith W after his wife. He remained very active in his retirement and enjoyed making staves for quahog rakes, hand carving small wooden utensils and doing specialty splicing for a local rope company. Harry was a longtime member of the Sons of Norway - Dovre Lodge and a charter member and first Deputy Chief of the Touisset Fire Company Engine #6. Most recently, from the comfort of their favorite chairs, Grams and Grumps didn't miss a thing in their panoramic Coles River view. In addition to his loving wife, Edith, Harry is survived by his children, Kristen A. Smith (Howell) of Seekonk, Karen A. Andersen (John Edge) of Bristol, Kurt W. Andersen (Patti) of Bristol, and Kim E. Andersen (William Beebe) of Warren; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late David V. Andersen and Helge "Andy" V. Andersen. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI where the family will receive relatives and guests for visitation on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 4-7PM. Funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Touisset Fire Company, c/o Warren Fire Department, 1 Joyce Street, Warren, RI 02885. When we arrived on Seaview Avenue in 2009 Harry and Eadie were one of the first to welcome us. We soon learnt that if you needed to know anything about the local laws and goings-on, Harry was the man to ask. We will miss him. Douglas and Wendy Brennen

When we moved to the neighborhood 18 years ago, Harry was one of the first neighbors we got to know. He and Edie had lived here longer than anyone else and were the foundation on which the rest of the neighborhood was built. Harry was the personification of reliability and competence. Tom Doeppner

I met Harry and Edith just a few years ago. They soon learned that my husband and I were travelling to Norway. They were so excited for us and brought to me publications from the Sons of Norway. Harry was gracious and generous of his time and knowledge. Edith is a wonderful woman. My heartfelt condolences to Edith and family. Karen Smigel

We are so sorry for your loss.......... We will miss Harry also. I loved my "chats" with Grumps when I would call and when he was done, he would just say "Here's Eadie" and pass the phone!... Harry and Eadie both were there for me to help me get through tough times loosing my parents and I will forever be so grateful. Chris and I both will miss him. All our love to all of you.....

To my dear friend Kim and her family, The obituary to honor your father is beautiful. What a life well lived. I want to share my deepest sympathies with you and your family. It's never easy when we lose a father, husband, brother, grandfather and pillar of the family. Treasuring and reliving the moments and memories you've shared, often brings some solace to the grief. Remember, he will always be by your side, in your thoughts and is an extension of your being. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
