Morrisonville - Paul A. Walby passed away on December 8, 2023. Born in La Crosse, WI to Alf and Helen Walby on September 10, 1947. He lived in Viroqua, graduated from Viroqua High School in 1965 and married Barb Selin in 1969. Paul graduated from UW-La Crosse in 1973 with a degree in political science and sociology.

Paul enlisted in the Army in 1967. He served in Vietnam, 25th Infantry Division, stationed in Cuchi and Taynin until 1968. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1974. He was highly decorated over his military career, receiving the Army Commendation medal, Combat Infantry badge and The Legion of Merit, among others. Paul retired from the military as Command Sergeant Major in 2002.

Paul served as a Viroqua Police Officer from 1969-1974. He worked for American Family Insurance from 1974 until his retirement in 2011.

Paul married Lynn Widmer on April 16, 1988. Together with their blended family they lived in Morrisonville, WI for 38 years. Paul was a Packers season ticket holder since 1987 and he and Lynn loved attending games at Lambeau Field. He became an avid golfer after retiring and enjoyed many sunny days on the golf course.

Paul is survived by his wife Lynn, his children Carrie Walby (Eric Eberhardt), Eric Walby, Kyle Walby (Jenny), stepdaughter Michelle Widmer Fetterer, grandson Christopher Walby, brothers Peter Walby (Sue), Mark Walby (Meryl) and a large family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Paul was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and a devoted friend. Most of all he was an honorable man and was proud to have served his country.

I would like to thank with all my heart the hospice angels at Agrace and the caring staff at the New Glarus Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace Hospice or to the Badger Honor Flight.

I will miss you forever, my Walby.

I served in the 2d Battalion with Paul in Madison; Paul as the Command Sergeant Major and I as the Battalion Commander. I have been around and seen and worked with dozens of highly competent Sergeants Major. Without question, Paul was the best. What I remember most was his extraordinarily sound judgement. He could always be depended on to quickly assess an often complex issue, and make the correct decision and execute. I relied on Paul and he never let me down! I am going to miss him but we will see him again. My sympathies to Lynn and his family. Peter M. Mott
