Anita Elizabeth Halko, 55, of Cranston, RI, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening of natural causes.

Anita was born on June 28, 1968 to Eva Halko and was raised by her loving parents Frank and Judi Tavares.

Anita is predeceased by her father Frank Tavares, her paternal grandmother Mary Lima, her maternal grandparents Lewis and Irene Brimmer, and most recently her beloved dog, Niko. She is survived by both of her mothers, Judi Tavares and Eva Halko, her maternal grandfather James Lima, her baby “Lady”, and her siblings Dawn Ahrendt (Scott Ahrendt), Miki Toner (Scott Toner), “Fred”, John Lessard, Pauline Pinto (Shon Campbell), Wendy Carrasco (Jose Carrasco), and Laura Halko. In addition to her siblings, Anita was a beloved aunt to Matthew Ahrendt, Courtney Perry (David Perry), Brady Toner, Jennifer Carrasco, Johnathan Carrasco, Kaylee Carrasco, Jamal Roman, Kelly-Ann Halko, and many beloved pet nieces and nephews including Bear-Bear, Diesel the Pug, Coco, Diesel the Dobie, Gemma, Pretty, Wyatt, Grey, Pegasus, and Baby. She will be fondly remembered by her many cousins and close friends whom she loved deeply and considered family.

Anita had many remarkable qualities including a heart that loved deeply, a generous spirit, and incredible talent in her ability to carry a conversation, but her most admirable quality was her devotion to helping others. She was kind, thoughtful, generous, and always put the needs of others first. Anita always made time for others.

Anita’s chosen career path in health care was a perfect compliment to her personality. She loved her line of work and working with and providing comfort and care for those in hospice. This work was truly her life’s passion and she bonded deeply with her patients and their family members. This care extended to all those in Anita’s life including our four legged friends. Simply put, she loved all animals.

Services will be held at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services located at 8 Schoolhouse Road in Warren, RI on Friday, December 15 from 4 pm to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to The Nursing Placement Foundation or Save-A-Lab. These are two organizations that Anita cared deeply about.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Anita’s employer, Home Health and Hospice Care of Nursing Placement, for their comforting kindness during our time of loss.

It's been so long Anita and every day I think of you. You knew things that no one else had no idea about. You witnessed things and gave me your support despite how I should have done things prior. We had many many talks no one will ever know about. I miss you so much but I hope you're partying like a rockstar in heaven. Love you always

Just remembering sitting at the table at Paulines house and just chatting and how easy it was to be around you. We all share our love of animals as we'd often be looking for Nook or getting kisses from Colby. Rest is peace Anita, you will be missed, but not forgotten. 💕
