Obituary For Anthony Richard Simmons

Anthony “Tony” R. Simmons, 80, of Warren, passed away on Monday, November 8, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Manuel C. and Angelina (Gonsalves) Simmons, he grew up in Bristol before settling in Warren in 1980. Tony was a long-standing member of the Elk’s Club in Bristol and was also a long-time member of Hydraulion Engine and Hose Co #1. He worked for many years for the Bristol-Warren Regional School District and later for First Student as a Bus Monitor. This allowed him to become involved in the sports program as the statistics keeper for Mt. Hope High School football team. He also loved coaching teams for Pop Warner football as well as Little League baseball in Bristol and Warren. Tony was an avid car lover and won many awards for his gorgeous 1955 Ford Crown Victoria. Through this, he was also a member of Bay State Street Machines and was very passionate in helping to raise money for their many causes. But most of all, Tony loved to spend time with his family, especially his grand and great-grandchildren. In addition to his loving wife, Kathleen, Tony is survived by his two sons, Manuel Simmons and his partner Deb Rainville of Riverside and George Simmons and his wife Pam of Warren; two brothers, Richard Simmons and his wife Patricia of MD and Edward Simmons and his wife Michelle of NH; a sister, Barbara Ann Duncan of CA; six grandchildren, George Simmons Jr. and his wife Christina, Anthony Simmons and his wife Lauren, Andrew Simmons, Brian Amaral and his wife Kayla, Meghan Franco and her husband Nick and Sara Simmons; seven great-grandchildren, George Simmons III, Keona Simmons, Paisley Amaral, Zoey Amaral, Theo Amaral, Jaxon Franco and Kennedy Simmons, as well as several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, where the family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 4-7pm. A funeral service in his honor will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10am in Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, Warren. Mr Tony as my son called him.... He was my son's bus monitor and if he was having a tough time on the bus, which happened quite often at one point, he would have him sit up with him. Watching over him. When my sons got to high school he was out there helping out again, taking the stats for the team. He has touched my family in such a positive manner. He will be missed.
