Obituary For David Roger Shears

David Roger Shears Sr, 82, of Warren passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Warren Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Warren, RI. The son of the late Benjamin Wilson and Flora (Simmonds) Shears, he grew up in Rehoboth, MA before settling in Warren for the rest of his adult life. He was the husband of Anna (Ferreira) Shears. David worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic at Potter Excavation for 30+ years, fixing all kinds of maintenance vehicles throughout his career. In his free time, David loved fishing, camping and being on the water. He was an avid auto racing fan and even used to build race cars in the 50's and 60's. Aside from motor sports, David also enjoyed watching the Red Sox and the Patriots play. He was also a fantastic woodworker and would often make all sorts of different things for his friends and family, including but not limited to: fishing lures, jewelry boxes for his granddaughters, bowls, cups, and all manner of things. David loved to feed his birds, which was almost like a ritual to him. But most of all, he is remembered to be a kind, loving, jokester of a man who loved his family and easily made friends with everyone he met. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his loving wife, Anna, David is survived by three sons: Ronald James Shears and his wife Deborah, Richard Allan Shears and James Allen Shears, all of Warren, his brother, Walter Shears and his wife Nancy of Seekonk, MA, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was the father of the late David Roger Shears Jr. of Warren and was the brother of the late Eleanor Clark of Coventry and the late Janice Mason of Swansea, MA. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, where the family will receive friends and family Tuesday, October 12, 2021 4:00 - 7:00pm. A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm in the funeral home. For tributes, please visit www.wjsmithfh.com

Mrs. Shears, Ron, Rick and Jimmy. I am very sorry for your loss. Growing up with Jimmy and coming by for visits to your home was always a lot of fun. I enjoyed the laughs and the words of wisdom he would bestow on me. He will be remembered by me as a Great Man. Michael Padovich

Anna, Ronnie, Rick & Jimmy, Tony & I want to extend our deepest sympathy on the passing of Dave😪. He was fun to be around. We will hold dear the memories of holidays spent with all of you at Rick's place. Everytime I look at our wood cups and the wood turtle puzzle (which still baffles me) we will smile and remember. May each passing day give you less sadness. Tony & Christine Palazzo ❤

Anna, Ron, Rick & Jimmy I am so sorry for your loss. Dave was like a dad to me and a very dedicated employee always giving 100%. We had a lot of heart to heart talks especially in his later semi retired days. He was a very talented man there was nothing he couldn't do and always figured out away to do it by himself. Every salesman that came to the yard was scared of him for being so rough with them I would say you have to earn his trust once you do that you have a friend for life. May each day ease your pain from your loss but remember all the good things he did and shared in his life time. Rest in peace my friend loved you like a dad. Skip & Dianne Potter
