Obituary For Edward A. Jamiel
Edward A. Jamiel peacefully joined his loved ones in Heaven on Wednesday, October 30, 2024. He was a resident of both Warren and Bristol, RI. The husband of the late Anna Jamiel and son of the late Albert G. and Mary (Falugo) Jamiel.
Eddy was a member of the National Guard and was honorably discharged to enlist in the United States Marine Corps to serve his country.
“Satch” was his alias as a boxer in his youth. He was a Golden Gloves Champion in 1957 and won the Rhode Island Light Heavyweight Championship in 1959.
Eddy went to school to become an Athletic Trainer. He was hired by Brown University and worked there for several years before being recruited by Providence College. He loved the players, and the players depended on him. During his time, he took on a new alias, “Fast”, because of his ability to wrap an injury faster than anyone. He worked with Rick Pitino for two years and was the trainer when the team made the Final Four in 1987 and Rick Barnes for six. “Fast” followed Pitino to the University of Kentucky where he was part of two NCAA Championships in 1996 and 1998. He retired in 1998 and came back to Bristol.
He was quiet, but when he spoke everyone listened. He was tough, but gentle. He loved to change cars often and he took care of his family. He was the first one to leave a party, he loved to eat out, and driving to get his morning newspaper. He said he didn’t eat junk food but did so secretly. He was always dressed nicely and always over tipped.
Edward was the brother of Anissa Polando and James Jamiel and the late brother of Amon, Joseph, Morphis, Bolus, Hirum, Albert, Zeina Willis, Melia Scheffler, Zenobia Paulhardt and Genevieve Jamiel.
Eddy’s family would like to thank Hope Hospice and Crestwood Nursing Home for providing the utmost care, patience, dignity, support, understanding and comfort.
Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI. The family will hold a Private Service at a later date.

"Fast" was one of a kind. I got to know him when I was an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Kentucky. He was a class act. He loved his players and they knew it. I learned so much from just watching him work.

From 1969-73 I worked in the Brown University sports information office and got to know Ed quite well. He was fun to be around, especially on road trips with the Brown men's basketball team. As good as he was as a trainer he was even better as a person. I really relished my time around Ed and am deeply saddened by his passing. Mike Scandura

Eddie was a good friend of mine, I had worked for Anna before I met him, and after for him in his house. We shared an interest in boxing and before Covid we were going to the exhibition fights at Icon in Bristol. He had invited me to go to Twin Rivers to watch the fights but that's when Covid hit. He loved my Siberian Huskies and was excited when I stopped to see him with them. The time I spent with him both working and talking, and advice he gave me about treating injuries were unforgettable, and I'll miss him. If anyone can let me know where I can eventually pay my respects I would appreciate it. Greg Hall Independent Plumbing Bristol

From 1969-73, I worked in the sports information office at Brown University and got to know "Fast Eddie" quite well. As good as he was at taking care of Brown's athletes (and later at Providence College and Kentucky), Eddie was an even better person. I relished our time together especially on road trips with then-men's basketball coach Jerry Alaimo. You would be hard-pressed to find a kinder, gentle person than Eddie. My deepest sympathy for all those who know him. Mike Scandura

Eddie was a great friend and a terrific person. We shared many laughs together and he was always a big help to me. He was the hardest worker I knew and would accomplish a great deal in a short time. Hence Fast Eddie. His loyalty was unsurpassed and he could always be depended on. He made work fun for all of us at Brown. Everyone loved Eddie, he will be greatly missed.

Fast Eddie Jamiel. One of the all time greats and a man I admired tremendously. We worked together at PC for 7 years and remained friends forever. I had the privilege of being his Primary Care Physician for many years. Fast was an amazing trainer. He was able to get players back from injuries faster than anyone I know. He always shied away from the limelight, even though he deserved it many times. He was a humble man who always wanted to help those around him. Like many others I will miss him dearly. RIP my friend and love you!!

Fast Eddy was a gem! He was so wonderful with our kids. Steve loved to talk college basketball with him! He had great stories from his time coaching the friars and the Wildcats. He had great success winning a trip with Pitino and the Friars to the Final 4. Then winning a Big East Championship with Rick Barnes' Friars and a National Championship with Pitino's Wildcats and Tubby Smith's Kentucky Wildcats as well. His players and coaches all loved him. We will miss him and his smile! Tina & Steve Minicucci
