Obituary For Elaine Manganaro Gotjen
Elaine (Manganaro) Gotjen passed away unexpectedly on December 28, 2025. Born on February 2nd, 1943, in Providence, RI she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Manganaro and Maria (Goneconto) Tedesco.
Elaine was a warm, nurturing, and selfless woman who took great pride in her Italian & Sicilian heritage as well as in raising her two daughters. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, and friend who made everything she touched special, from her delicious home cooked meals, to sewing Halloween costumes, volunteering at Meals on Wheels and in her daughters' schools. She lived in Providence for many years before moving to Warren RI with her husband, the late Reginald Gotjen, to raise their family.
People may remember Elaine from many phases of her life, including her time serving on the Altar guild at the former St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Warren, RI, where she also helped run many a church card party and holiday bazzar, or from her time at the former Ann & Hope store in Seekonk, MA where she greeted customers walking through the front doors with her incredible smile and laugh, or from Bradley Hospital where she assisted visitors, residents, and staff with her cheery disposition in person and on the phone until her retirement. Elaine also enjoyed spending time with friends and was a great sidekick to a crafting class, shopping trip, or a lobster roll lunch by the sea. Elaine was gifted in the kitchen, she loved a cookbook and spoiled her family and friends with her dishes, from her sticky chicken wings, stuffed artichokes, holiday fruitcake and of course her delicious Italian sauce.
Elaine is survived by her two daughters who will miss her dearly, Courtney Gotjen and Jessica Gotjen Seth and husband Elvis. The younger sister of the late Nicholas A. Manganaro of Cohasset, MA, she leaves behind a cherished sister in law Jean Manganaro and nephew Nicholas P. Manganaro.
Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren, RI 02885 where relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday January 10, 2026 from 10-12:00pm with a Prayer Service being held at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island.
