Obituary For Evelyn Theresa (Hyder) Coccio
Evelyn Theresa (Hyder) Coccio, 82, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2026. She was the devoted wife of the late John R. Coccio, Sr. for 60 years before his passing in February.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Anna Mae (Welch) Hyder.
Evelyn was proudly employed at Sears at the Swansea Mall for decades before retiring. She enjoyed traveling with her siblings, often taking on road trips near or far. She kept busy with her many hobbies, including crocheting, reading, and her weekly crossword. Most importantly, Evelyn was a constant presence in the lives of her grandchildren. Evelyn treasured every moment- from getting her grandchildren off the bus to watching them graduate. Her grandchildren, and eventually great grandchildren, were the light of her world.
Evelyn was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol.
She is survived by her sons, John R. Coccio, Jr. (Beth) and David J. Coccio (Marie); her grandchildren: Kathleen Oberg (Jeff), Matthew Coccio, Kelly Coccio, and Ryan Coccio (Madelyn); her great-grandchildren Audrey and Anthony Oberg, Enzo and Stella Coccio; her sisters, Anna Mae Hyder and Mary Cavaliere; and many extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Leonard (the late Jeannie), Charles “Jackie” (Janice), and Bruce (Dorothy) Hyder; and her sister, Beverly Carreiro.
Funeral arrangements are through Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI where the family will receive condolences on Friday, July 24, 2026 from 9:00 AM-10:00 AM. Her funeral will begin from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI. She will be laid to rest at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol, RI.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St, Bristol, RI 02809.
