Obituary For Gary L. Hooper

Gary L. Hooper, 68, of Warren, RI passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024 after a short illness. A son of the late William and Flora (Scetta) Hooper and the loving husband of Susan (Chace) Hooper, Gary was born in Venice, FL and grew up in Providence, RI before moving back to Florida until the late 90’s. He then moved to Warren in 2004, where he remained for the remainder of his lifetime.

After his retirement in 2022, Gary worked for First Student as a Bus Monitor where he loved what he did wholeheartedly. He loved that he was able to interact with the kids every day. In his spare time, Gary loved being by the ocean, whether it be fishing, camping or any other outdoor activity. He especially enjoyed gardening and took great pride in growing all types of fresh vegetables. He was an avid coin collector and had an extensive catalogue of many historical coins. Gary said he was put on this Earth to make people laugh, and he did. He was always the life of the party. Most of all, Gary loved to be with his family, including his pets, Sakari and Jack Black.

In addition to his beloved wife, Susan, Gary is survived by his daughters, Kaloni Hooper and Tiana Hooper; his sons, Dustin Hooper and Ty Hooper; his brothers, William “Billy” Hooper and his wife Patricia, and Kevin Hooper and his wife Janet; his grandchildren, Azia Bennett and Desirae Murphy; and his niece, Lauren Hooper and nephew, Kevin Hooper Jr.

Gary was very loved and will be tremendously missed. His memories and beautiful smile will always live within us.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI. For tributes, please visit: www.wjsmithfh.com.

I had the pleasure of meeting Garry and boy was he a funny guy. From the first day I seen him to not think when I seen him in the hospital was the last. It saddens me that Garry is no longer with his family but I'm glad he is no longer suffering. My deepest condolences to Sue and the whole family!! You will be missed Mr. Hooper

To cousins Billy and Kevin, and Susan and Gary's entire family, very sorry about your loss. Getting to hang out with Gary, Billy, and Kevin on Friday nights with Uncle Bill at Jack Witchie's was real special (you guys always treated me like a brother!), then sharing breakfast the next morning with Aunt Flora, then playing around in the backyard till it was time to go home was always so much fun and wonderful memories to this day. To Gary looking down from Heaven, thank you for your kindness, the memories, and especially all the laughs.... rest in peace and God bless you.
