Obituary For Gary W. Couitt Sr.

Gary W. Couitt Sr., 82, of Bristol, RI, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Manuel and Margaret (Lyne) Couitt, Gary grew up in Swansea, MA before moving to Warren, RI where he remained until moving to Bristol three years ago.

Gary worked in the heating repair business for many years. In his younger years, Gary enjoyed playing softball, basketball and golfing, which he continued to do all throughout his life. Gary really enjoyed sports and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He was a longtime member of the Portuguese-American Club of over sixty years and played cards there every Friday night. More than anything else, Gary loved a great clam boil and a beer and spending time with his family. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gary would do anything to get a laugh out of them like playing dress-up and makeover with the girls and acting as a human jungle gym for the boys.

Gary is survived by his son, Gary Couitt Jr. of Naples, FL; his daughters, Lori Anderson of Naples, FL and Kerry Santerre and her husband Cory of Bristol, RI, his sister, Kathy Swist of Dighton, MA; his seven grandchildren, Alyssa Thompson, Marc Couitt, Christine Couitt, Chelsea Shaw, Devin Santerre, Cameron Santerre and Ethan Santerre; and eleven great grandchildren. He was the grandfather of the late Jordan Couitt.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885, where the family will receive relatives and guests for Visitation on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 2-6PM.
