Obituary For Guy Mansfield Allen

Guy Mansfield Allen, 66, of Portsmouth,R. I., passed away on July 11, 2018 at Hope Hospice & Palliative Care in Providence, R. I.

He is survived by his wife Gail Whitney Allen; his beloved Yorkshire Terrier Sargent Yorke; sister Diane Williams; brothers Henry Whitfield Allen, Eugene Watts, Daryl Sanders, cousin Maron Lloyd and wife Patricia Lloyd and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Also, he is also survived by his sister-in-law Andrea L. Whitney and her partner Bruce Wentzel.

Guy is predeceased by his mother Marjorie Mansfield Allen and father George Whitfield Allen.

Guy was born on January 1, 1952 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the first baby to be born that year in Cincinnati.

After a brief attendance at Miami University in Ohio, Guy joined the U.S. Navy and attained the rank of First Class Petty Officer. During his career in the Navy he was stationed at various military installations including the Newport Naval War College in Newport, R. I. His career included participation in the Gulf War serving aboard the USS Thomas S. Gates. Guys destroyer group had the distinction of firing the first Tomahawk missile in the war. After retirement from the Navy he worked in several civil service positions including employment at the Naval Health Care New England (NHCNE) medical center.

Guy fought a courageous and valiant battle against Congestive Heart Failure for several years. He was an avid reader and movie goer.

Special thanks are given to the Portsmouth Rescue team, the staffs at Newport Hospital, Newport, R.I. , the V.A. Hospital in Providence, R. I. and Visiting Nurse Home and Hospice in Portsmouth, R. I. Lastly, we thank the Hope Hospice & Palliative Care facility in Providence, R. I. for their compassionate care of Guy.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at St. Lucy Catholic Faith Community located at 909 West Main Road in Middletown, R. I. The mass will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, July 13, 2018 to celebrate Guys life.     Gail and family - so sorry to hear of the passing of Guy. I worked with him at the Navy Base and he was a lot of fun and we had lots of laughs. Will keep you in our prayers.
