Obituary For James Costa Gomes

James C. Gomes, 88, of Terrace Drive, Bristol, died Thursday, August 9 at Crestwood Nursing Home. Hewas born in Bristol, a son of the late John and Marianna (Costa) Gomes. He served in WWII in the US Coast Guard-Merchant Marines. He was a machine operator for Smith Manufacturing, retiring at the age of 65. He was a devoted husband of Irene (Oliver) Gomes. Father of Rebecca DeFusco of Bristol, Janet (husband Robert) Barton of Seattle, WA and Alan Gomes of Boscawen, NH and grandfather of Shannon DeFusco of Bristol. He was a member of St Elizabeths Church and the Portuguese American Club. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where family will receive friends on Sunday, August 19th, 5-8pm with a prayer at 7:30pm. A graveside service will be held at 10:30am on Monday August 20th in St Marys Cemetery, Bristol, with military honors.
