Obituary For Janet Castigliego
Janet (Turner) Castigliego, 93, of Bristol, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Grace Barker Nursing Center in Warren. She was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas J. Castigliego.
Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Julia (Petruska) Turner.
Janet and her husband Nick were paper carriers for the Providence Journal for many years. Their customers looked forward to the cheery poems that Janet wrote and included with their paper every week.
Sending and receiving all kinds of greeting cards were very special to Janet.
Janet was an avid music box collector.
Janet, along with her husband Nick, spent many years and were very involved with the Bristol Train of Artillery.
The Bristol Fourth of July Festivities was a favorite time of year for Janet, filled with lots of family time.
Janet and Nick would spend many an evening at Colt State Park to watch the sunset together. They greatly appreciated that time together.
An avid communicant of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Bristol, she was the highest ranked female of the Bristol Train of Artillery.
Janet is survived by her sons, John Castigliego and his wife Sharon of Riverside, Bruce Castigliego and his wife Carol of Bristol, and Nicholas Castigliego and his wife Gina of East Providence; her daughters, Julie Coleman and her husband Rob of Oxford, FL, Cathy Waksler and her husband David of Johnston and Elizabeth Castigliego of East Providence; her sisters Evelyn Strickland of Warren, Roberta Newman of Pawtucket and her seven grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Norma Shaw, sister of the late Lester Turner, Buzzy Turner and Patricia Lewis.
Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 11AM in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol, RI 02809. A Burial will follow South Burial Ground, Sowamsett Ave, Warren, RI 02885.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet’s name to The Bristol Train of Artillery, 135 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
