Obituary For Jeanne Anne Rizzuto

Rizzuto, Jeanne Anne (Toohey), 84 of Barrington, Rhode Island was born into eternal life on February 20, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna McVay Toohey.

Jeanne was a native New Yorker born in Flushing, Queens. Prior to moving to Barrington in 2013, she lived in Hobe Sound, Florida for 20 years, with her late husband of 59 years August Gus Rizzuto. Jeanne and Gus raised their family in Roslyn Heights, New York.

They were active members of St. Marys Roman Catholic Church in Roslyn. While in Florida, they were communicants of St. Christopher's Church, and most recently Jeanne attended St Lukes Church in Barrington.

After graduating from Katherine Gibbs, Jeanne worked in Manhattan for years then moved east to raise her family. She subsequently earned an Associates Degree in Accounting from Nassau Community College, a college degree always being a lifelong dream of hers. Jeanne will be remembered for her faith, deep love and devotion to her family, a quick wit and her love of words and song. She would complete the Sunday NY Times crossword puzzle in under an hour, join in a song at any moment, and bring a smile to those around her with her quips and clichés. Jeanne was an avid bridge player, loved books, sports, cooking but above all else, spending time with her family.

She is survived by sons, Paul (Lori Ann) of Florham Park, NJ; Edward (Kate Kennedy) of Durham, NC; Philip (Tracey) of Barrington, RI; Daniel (Regina) of Darien, CT and daughter, Nancy of Chicago, IL. She was adored by her 12 grandchildren, Sam, Elizabeth, Brendan, Benjamin, Annabelle, Mary Kate, Philip, Caroline, Daniel, Fay, Michael, and James. She is also survived by sisters-in-laws Ruth Maxsym, Rose Ann Rizzuto, Sylvia Rizzuto and many nieces and nephews. Jeanne was the sister of late brothers Jack and Robert Toohey and sister-in law of the late Ann Palumbo Toohey.

A memorial mass will be held at a future date at St Marys Roman Catholic Church in Roslyn, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics of Rhode Island. http://www.specialolympicsri.org/.

Arrangements have been made through Smith Funeral Home in Warren, RI

To the Family of Jeanne, I met Jeanne at Atria in Barrington while my mom was a resident there....they were dining partners. More recently, I entered Grace Barker Nursing Home and Jeanne was sitting there. Again reunited with 'mom'. Jeanne had such a great personality and smile that shined as blue as her eyes. May she rest in peace....thank you Jeanne for making my mom's days a little brighter.
