Obituary For Joan Dorothy O'Neil

Joan Dorothy (Keefe) O’Neil, 82, of East Providence, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at Waterview Villa Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in East Providence, RI. She was the loving wife of James O’Neil with whom she shared 57 years married.

Born on December 15, 1942, in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Dorothy (O’Brien) Keefe.

Joan grew up in Providence and attended Blessed Sacrament School. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. She furthered her education at Rhode Island College.

She was the office manager of her family business, Automated Designs Inc, in Bristol, Rhode Island for over 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, James O’Neil of Pawtucket, her daughter Meredith O’Neil Vargas of San Antonio, TX, and her sisters Judith (Keefe) McGarty and Maureen (Keefe) Nelson, both of Wakefield. She was also the younger sister of the late Carol (Keefe) Cinq Mars.

In her spare time, she enjoyed spending time with family, reading, and exercising.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd., Warren, RI 02885 where relatives and friends are invited to attend Visitation on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 9:00-11:00 AM with a Funeral Home Service at 11 AM. Burial is private.
