Obituary For Joan Elizabeth Bennett

Joan E. ( Harrison) Bennett, 76 of Warren, died peacefully at home on June 12, 2017.

She was the wife of the late George J. Bennett.

Joan was born in Providence a daughter of the late Raymond P. and Josephine A. ( Degnan) Harrison. Mrs. Bennett had worked for the Providence Housing Authority and also HUD for over 35 years before retiring in 1998.

She was a graduate of St. Xavier High School in Providence, class of 1958. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling abroad with her lifelong friend Jean, and then later, day trips with her late husband George and vacation escapes to Ogunquit, Maine.

A Warren resident for nearly 50 years, Joan enjoyed living in the downtown historic district and was a participant in many of the local festivities. Her home was always a welcome and festive sight for family and friends as she always loved to decorate and celebrate the holidays. She was an amazing hostess.

Anyone who knew Joan, knows that she was always on the go, but after the passing of her husband in 2015 along with the onset of illness, she remained close to home and took up a less exhausting past time of adult coloring. She is survived by her German shepherd Sandy along with many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Josephine Barrus and also the aunt of the late Raymond Harrison.

Her funeral will be held Saturday June 17, 2017 at 8:00am from the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, with a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St, Burial will follow in South Burial Ground.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours are Saturday morning from 8:00 9:30am.

My condolences to you all for the loss of your aunt. Joanie's smile always lit up the room and her sassy personality. She is smiling in heaven in the company of George and your mother. Philippians 4:13 " I can do all things through him who strengthens me...." May God's love, peace and strength carry you all at this sad time. All my love, Sonya

Joan - you will be missed by everyone that knew you. We started work on the same day and I considered you a friend since then. You were the one who always kept the "old crew" together with your luncheon planning. I can't believe you are gone because you were such a fighter that I thought you had beat this awful disease. To Joan's nieces and family members my thoughts are with you all.

Joan was my neighbor on State Street. Loved going by her house and sitting in her beautiful living room to have a chat. Always very pleasant and nice. This is sad. I pray she rests in peace and sending support and prayer to her family.
