Obituary For Joan R. (Winsor) D'orsi

Joan R. (Winsor)D'orsi, 88 passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family. She was the beloved daughter of the late Sgt Oscar Storm and Ruth Wischnowski.

Joan leaves behind a selfless devotion to her family and lived a life defined by warmth, patience, generosity and above all, unconditional love. She was deeply loved by all whose lives she touched.
Joan worked for the former Fleet Bank before retiring to pursue her passion for antiques. She went on to manage Once in a Blue Moon Antiques, where she delighted in helping customers discover beautiful treasures from France and Italy, while enthusiastically sharing the history behind each piece.

Joan had a deep love for animals and found great joy in caring for the birds, squirrels and rabbits that faithfully visited her doorstep each day. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed researching the pyramids of Egypt, watching Netflix, reading her Bible, and visiting with neighbors. She especially treasured her daily phone calls with her daughters and the time spent with those she loved.

Joan was the devoted mother of Sharon D’Orsi Gamba and her husband Dennis; the late Arthur D’Orsi; Richard D’Orsi; and Donna D’Orsi Smith and her husband Matthew.

Her grandchildren- Dennis, Dayna, Ryan and Brianna brought her immeasurable joy. The many friends of Dennis and Dayna affectionately called her “Nana” and often lined up for her famous chicken cutlets, which she lovingly prepared for everyone. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Aaliyah, Dennis and Oscar Storm.

In her daily life, Joan cherished her close relationship with her daughters, her grandchildren, and her almost daughter Brenda, whit whom she shared many visits and conversations.

Although our family mourns the loss of her presence beyond words, we will forever remember her gentle voice, quiet strength through illness, and the joy she found in raising and loving her grandchildren. She often said those years spent with them were the happiest of her life.

She loved fiercely until her very last day and will be missed beyond measure. Her courage, kindness, selflessness, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain her lasting legacy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hope Hospice for the extraordinary compassion, comfort, dignity and respect they provided during Joan's final days. They truly do the work of angels.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 1st, 10am at St Bartholomew Church, 297 Laurel Hill Ave, Providence, RI 02909. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, 1085 N Main St, Providence, RI 02904.

Some people move through this world quietly, never asking for recognition, yet somehow leave it forever changed simply because they were here. That's who Nan was. She gave love so naturally that it became part of the people lucky enough to know her. Her little giggle, her incredible chicken cutlets that no one can ever come close to, the warmth she carried into every room, those are the things that live on. Not because we refuse to let go but because love like hers doesn't leave when a person does. It becomes part of us. I will carry so many beautiful memories of her for the rest of my life and I will always be grateful that our paths crossed. My heart aches for all of you, but I hope that, in time, the weight of this loss is softened by the immeasurable love she leaves behind. ~Candace Brooks-Cafarella

I am so sorry to hear this. My deepest condolences to the entire family. "Mama D"orsi " helped me so many times with babysitting my daughter Briana and I remember many conversations with her before and after I came home . Her wisdom and friendship at that time is something I will always cherish.. May she rest in peace and delight in seeing her precious son Arthur again. Lori DelSesto
