Obituary For Jo-Ann C. Mikulski
Jo-Ann C. (Verville) Mikulski, 79, of Riverside, RI, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. A daughter of the late Norman J. and Dorothy C. (Gamage) Verville and the beloved wife of Stanley Mikulski, Jo-Ann grew up in Fall River before eventually settling in Warren with her husband in 1972.
Jo-Ann was a devout member of St. Mary of the Bay Parish for many years and really enjoyed helping those in need. She expressed her overwhelming generosity in many ways - she enjoyed putting on Catholic Charities, volunteering at her children’s schools for various events, organizing group cruises, serving the Church as a Eucharistic Minister, and hosting foreign exchange students who became like family to she and Stanley. Jo-Ann enjoyed knitting and quilting in her spare time and loved to share her talents with anyone who needed her. She loved to travel and cruise with her husband, Stanley, and the two got to see many parts of the world together. Most of all, Jo-Ann loved the company of her family and especially loved to see and spoil her grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband, Stanley, Jo-Ann is survived by her daughters, Anne-Marie Scott and her husband Patrick of Bristol, RI and Mary-Kate Wilson and her husband Brad of Barrington, RI; her brothers, Norman “Butch” Verville and his wife Rose of Seekonk, MA, Gary Verville and his wife Connie of Devils Lake, ND, and Donald Verville and his wife Liane of Tiverton, RI; her sister, Bette Shea and her husband Jack of Osterville, MA; and her four grandchildren, Henry, Maxine, Cole and Grace. She was the sister of the late John Verville, Charles Verville, and Dorothy Szulewski.
Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885, where the family will receive relatives and guests for Visitation on Thursday, November 6, 2025 from 4-7PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 8:30AM followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main St. Warren, RI 02885. A Private Burial will be held at a later date.

Jo-Ann was a wonderful and Kind person. She and Stanley reached out to my family with open arms and one of the highlights of his life was the family reunion where all of the Verville family embraced him as Family. Jo-Ann and Stash took us into their home and made a trip of a lifetime for my parents come true. My husband and I visited them in Florida 10 years ago and again they and the Verville family embraced us as family. My life is so much better having had Jo-Ann in it. Thank you for sharing her with us. Peace to you all.

Joann and I started Dominican Academy in the 7th grade together and graduated together 6 years later. She lived near me, at the bottom of Brayton Avenue while I lived near the top. So we walked to DA together and when the weather was bad, he father woukd drive us to DA. I will always think of Joann as a kind and gentle soul, not a mean bone in her body. I so enjoyed going to her very busy house with so many kids. Her parents were so generous, I had sleep overs there and loved them. And Joann would sleep at my very quiet house as well. Rest in peace, Joann. You left the world a better place with your kind presence.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Stash, Ann Marie & Mary Kate and their families and to the extended Verville family. I first met Jo when she entered DA grammar school for 7th grade. We were friends from that day on! I have so many wonderful memories of time spent with Jo and her family through the years! Although in later years, the time between visits and communications could be long, the bond of friendship was still as strong! Jo was always considered a "quiet woman" but those who knew and loved her knew how strong she was! We will love and miss you forever Jo

To JoAnn's family, I am a DA graduate, JoAnn was in my class. I have many fond memories of her from school & from her visits with my family (The Murray's) through the years. I remember her as a gentle & kind woman with a warm smile & laugh. I am so sorry for your loss but know she will continue to be in your lives going forward, just in new ways. Be gentle with yourselves during the coming times.
