My deepest sympathies to John's family. I was young second lieutenant the last 2 years of his military career. He treated me with respect (and busted chops!) and I treated him with respect. As he continued to serve in the Guards of Thunder I would see him at the Metacom Armory all the time, he always stopped to say hello. He was a kind gentle soul to those who served with him, especially junior officers willing to listen and learn. Play The Game! Fight To Win! May he Rest In Peace.
