Text: Lombardo, John A., 60, died Sunday at home. Born in Maine, a son of the late Frank Lombardo and Barbara (Gates) Lombardo Wilson, he moved to Warren, RI as an infant. He graduated from LaSalle Academy, and attended Bryant College. John served in the United States Marine Corps as a Machine Gunner and upon his honorable discharge from service was a member of the Napa Valley Sheriffs Department in California. He worked at the Adult Correctional institute in RI and then served with the Providence Police Department until he joined the Warren Police Department in 1980, until his retirement in 1992. John was the owner of East Bay Cushion & Canvas, founded in 1977 with his wife, Andrea. John was the owner and operator of the business until his death in 2012. He was affectionately known to locals as the Canvas Baron. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as his four legged friends. He was also an avid reader and loved all types of history. John enjoyed wood-working and restoring cars and boats. He was always available to lend a hand to those in need. Beloved father of Angela Buerstatte of Norton, MA, Allison Lombardo and Ashley Lombardo, both of Fayetteville, NC. Brother of Daniel and Joseph Lombardo, Maria Geoppo, Dianne Andrews, Judi Kupec and Susan Grande. Loving grandfather of Garrett Buerstatte. Also survived by his current wife, Charlene (Bjerke) Lombardo of Barrington, RI, her daughter Jennifer Brewster and grandson, Matthew Brewster. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren where family will receive friends Thursday, August 23rd, 4-7pm. Funeral service Friday, 10am in the funeral home, burial with full military honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI.
