A son of the late Charles and Thora (French) Schultz and the beloved husband of Carolyn (Lynn Recupero) Schultz, John was born in Charleston, SC, where he spent his younger years before moving to Arizona, where he remained until enlisting in the United States Navy.

During his 30-year career in the Navy, John was able to travel extensively and moved around quite a bit before finally settling in Bristol with his family for the last forty years. He also served on the USS Peleliu at the commissioning in 1980 for another five years. John then was transferred to Rhode Island and stationed at the Senior Enlisted Academy in Newport, RI, serving as a naval instructor. His last duty station was in Washington DC for two years when he retired. In his spare time, John loved fishing, watching NASCAR and football, and collecting books and Navy memorabilia.

In addition to his loving wife, Lynn, John is survived by his daughters, Kimberley Dias and her husband Kenneth of West Kingstown, RI, Francine DePina and her husband Craig of Warren, RI, and Carolyn Schultz of Bristol, RI; and his granddaughter, Taryn Girouard of Bristol, RI. I was heart broken to hear of John's passing. I met him once at the Senior Enlisted Academy and he had an influence on so many sailors including myself. Fair winds and following seas, Master Chief!
