Obituary For Joseph DeMoura Jr.

Joseph DeMoura Jr., 65, of Bristol, RI passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 in his family home. The son of the late Joseph DeMoura Sr., Ella DeMoura and Lorraine (Alves) Christoun, Joe was a lifelong resident of Bristol.

After High School, Joe went on to attend CCRI and earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science. After, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp for active duty as a Harrier Jump Jet Mechanic and was stationed in Yuma, AZ, where he started his family. He then returned to Rhode Island and went into the reserves for the remaining 12 plus years of his military career. Once back in Rhode Island, Joe worked for General Dynamics Electric Boat, Quonset Point for 32 years – where he was famously known as “Joey Two-Hole”, and Auto Zone in Fall River, MA part time, for many years. He worked hard to raise his son, Joey, as a single Father, which was unheard of in those days, with the help of his father and wife Ella, as well as Joey’s grandmother Trish.

Joe raised his family and lived in the DeMoura family home, built by his grandparents. He was a very routine-oriented person, thanks to his long military career, and would have his weekly calls with his loved ones. In his spare time, Joe loved to play guitar and build or rebuild anything with an engine – cars, trucks, motorcycles, anything. He shared many projects with his son, Joey, especially the famous Monte Carlo. Joe was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and rider and was on the bike any chance he got. Once he was unable to ride on 2 wheels, Joey and Stacy got to surprise him with a Trike for his 65th Birthday in 2023. He was in all of his glory to be on the road again with his son and friends. Most of all, Joe was known as a kind, loving, thoughtful and honest man who loved his family more than anything. Some of his greatest times were spent with his kids going to games or concerts. He was always there to help someone in need and loved talking to people. He was liked by everyone he met and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, Ella and Lorraine, Joe is survived by his life partner of 18 years, Cheryl Bushee of Cumberland, RI, his son, Joseph DeMoura III and his wife Stacy of Fall River, MA; his daughter, Elizabeth T. Bichsel of Pascoag, RI; his sister, Diane “Boog” Sousa and her husband Brian of Bristol, RI; his grandson, Jordan Joseph DeMoura of Fall River, MA; his nephew Randy Sousa; his niece, Jenn Fortune and her husband Chris, his great niece, Ella Fortune, and Cheryl’s daughter, Kristen Desvoyaux and granddaughter, Ava Audette, both of Cumberland, RI.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI, where the family will receive relatives and guests for a Celebration of Life Ceremony on Friday, January 19, 2024 at 4-7PM. A Burial will be held at a later date at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the NAF – National Ataxia Foundation, PO Box 27986, Golden Valley, MN 55427.
