Obituary For Joseph P. Travers

Joseph Travers, 90, of Warren, RI, passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, with his family at his side. A son of the late Joseph Travers Jr and Elsie (Silvia) Travers and the beloved husband of Dorothy (Napolitan) Travers, Joseph was a lifelong resident of Bristol and Warren.

Joseph worked in the education system for many years as a Teacher. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing Bocce Ball, and loved being out in his yard, manicuring his lawn and tending to his flowers. Joseph was an avid car enthusiast and had a wonderful collection of classic cars. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of his family.

In addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy, Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph Travers of East Providence, RI; his daughters, Karyn Travers-Harper of Bristol, RI, Tracey Francis and her husband Richard of Warren, RI, and Lesle Formisano and her husband Ralph of FL; his three grandchildren, Sophia Harper, Kristin Moreira and Jennifer Francis; his great grandchildren, David Van Brussell and Christopher Van Brussell; and great great grandchildren, Shiloh and Salem.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885. Relatives and guests are invited to gather for a Committal Service on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 10AM at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd. Providence, RI 02906. A Burial will immediately follow the service.

    I will remember Joe fondly always doing something around his house as I walked by. He would have a dog treat in his pocket for my dog and if not go get one. I would comment on a tool or machine he was using saying I never saw that before. He would laugh and say I made it. We all enjoyed seeing him and this year his rabbit bush you never knew what he was going to do next. Dottie was always supportive. He will be missed everyday going around that corner.

    Joe was so many things to so many people in our neighborhood - from Fatima Drive to Beth Ave Warren. Joe touched the hearts of those who saw him gardening/decorating his yard all year long by car, bike, walking for exercise or with the many dogs in the neighborhood he always had a smile, a gesture, a word of wisdom or a full blown conversation Joe will be missed. His corner property will forever be his memorial to all of us. Karyn and family I am so sorry for this sudden loss. Your dad was so kind to and friendly with my husband before he passed they had a beautiful friendship - both great guy and crazy about cars!! Much love, Jane

    I am so happy I stopped by to see Dottie and Joe a few weeks ago. I had the best visit with them!!! I always felt welcome in his home. Joe was so easy to talk with. I will miss his loving spirit. He had a way of making everyone feel special. Joe was a very kind hearted giving man. If he heard about someone in need, he wanted to help. He truly cared about the less fortunate. He reminded me of my own father when it came to that. Both retired educators aware of the kid who is down and out. Joe was one of the good guys! They don't make them like him anymore. Rest in peace Papa Joe!❤️🙏🙏❤️
