Obituary For Kenneth Joseph Barlow

Kenneth J. Barlow, 84, of Bristol, RI passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, after a long illness.

A son of the late Florence Ashworth and beloved husband of Noreen (Butler) Barlow. Ken was a lifelong resident of Bristol.

He enlisted in the US Air Force in his late teens and after returning back to Bristol, he married Noreen. They bought their first house on Bradford Street, then built his first home on Jane Lane. Ken owned Ken’s Floor Covering for many years before turning over the business to his son Kenny. He then worked for the Newport Bridge and then onto the Mt. Hope Bridge as a toll collector before retiring and purchasing a convenience store. After the sale of the store, he went back to work to his favorite job of all, Bus Driver for the school system.

He loved to play cards, Hi-lo Jack at the Bristol Elks, traveled to Hawaii and then to Daytona, FL with friends. Whenever he saw anyone, he knew his favorite saying was “Hey Guy.” He was also referred to many times as “Blue Eyes.” He also enjoyed his ice-cold Miller Lite.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Noreen, his daughter, Robin Barlow, of Barrington and his son, Kenneth J. Barlow, Jr. of Maine; his 5 grandchildren, Colin and Brenden McNaught; Hannah, Brooke and Jenna Barlow and his 2 great-grandchildren, Isla and Soleil McNaught. He was the brother of Raymond Barlow and the late, Robert Barlow, Chester Barlow, and Claire Balzano.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 8th at 11:00AM in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol, RI followed by a burial with full Military Honors at North Burial Ground, 1081 Hope Street, Bristol, RI.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Health Hospice & Palliative Care of RI; Dawn Hill Nursing Home and/or Alzheimer’s Association of RI.

The family would also like to thank Hope Health Hospice and their staff as well as the Staff at Dawn Hill, South Unit for the wonderful care they gave to him in these last few months.
