Obituary For Kenneth Mason

Kenneth A. Mason, 65, of Bay Spring Ave and previously of Thomas Streeet, Barrington died, Monday September 6, 2004 at Rhode Island Hospital after a long illness with heart disease.

Beloved husband of Kathleen (Becker) Mason.

Born in Fall River, MA, son of the late Anthony E. and Alice (Merchant) Mason. He had lived most of his life in Barrington.

He was a Rocket Scientist (space engineer) for Lockheed Martin from 1963 until retirement in 1992.

He graduated from Barrington High School with honors in 1957. He attended Yale University and graduated 1961 and received his masters in engineering from Northeastern University in 1963. At that time he went to work for Lockheed Martin. He patented many ideas, many of which continue to orbit the earth to this day. His hobbies included history, which was evident in the many organizations to which he belonged, including: The Massasiot of Warren, Warren Preservation Society, John Brown House Docent, The R I Historical Society, The Barrington Historical Society and he was the Historian for the Barrington Website. He also enjoyed diners, dining and mountain climbing throughout New England. He climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa. He traveled all over the world.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen, four step children; Erik Ekholn of San Jose, CA, Mona Lisa Rawls, Corpus Christi, TX, Evans Indalos, San Jose CA and Minda Deighan of Jacksonville, FL. He leaves three grandchildren. He was also the cousin of Alexandra Washburn of Washburn, KA. Brother of the late Stephan Mason.

Visitation was omitted and after cremation he will be buried at a later date with his wife in Florida.

    Dear Janet - I was sorry to hear of the loss of Richard. I know that we have only been able to visit a few times -- but I feel like we've been family for so much longer - you and Richard are both so special to us! The recent Ivy family get togethers were made so extra special by you both being there. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.     Dear Janet, Erin & family, We are so sorry for your loss. Although we have known you for such a short time, we feel as if you have been family for so long. Your wonderful daughter is such a joy and treasure to our famliy and through having Erin join our family, we received the blessing and great joy of meeting you and Richard. We are so grateful that we had the honor of knowing Richard. He was truly an angel on earth. We love you so much and wish we could be with you during this time.
