Obituary For Lawrence Harvey Weiner

Dr. Lawrence H. Weiner of Bristol RI passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016. He was a well known educator and advocate for children with special needs.

He was the loving husband of Marilyn (Quinlan) Weiner and the proud father of Matthew and Daniel Weiner. He also leaves his adoring and cherished grandchildren, Danielle and Jesse and his ever faithful dog, Newman.

He was the son of the late Haskell and Esther Weiner of Brookline MA.

Dr. Weiner graduated from Brookline High and received his bachelor degree from Boston University in clinical psychology. He received his masters degree and his doctorate at Syracuse University in Special Education.

He is a member of Alpha Chapter Epsilon Pi.

He spent two years in the Army as a medical specialist.

His early career included the position of school psychologist at six NY State central school districts and the New York State School for the Blind. Over the decades, he taught graduate courses in educational psychology at the University of Connecticut, Rhode Island College and University of Rhode Island. He prepared teachers regarding students with special needs in the classroom. Dr. Weiner was the first Director of Special Education for the Barrington RI school system. He held similar positions in the Swansea and Newton MA public schools.

Returning to Rhode Island he enjoyed years as a school psychologist at the Newport County Regional Special Education Program.

Most recently, he maintained a private practice in Rhode Island. He also maintained a consultant relationship with local nursing homes.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI where the family will receive friends, Tuesday, February 2nd from 5-8pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service Wednesday at 9:30am at Forest Chapel Cemetery, Nayatt Rd, Barrington .
