Obituary For Lawrence L. Viscolosi Jr.

Lawrence L. Viscolosi, Jr. (Larry Visco) of Warren, RI passed away peacefully at home at the age of 70 in the company of his wife and beloved cockapoo Gabi Grace. Born in Providence, RI to Lawrence L. Viscolosi, Sr. and Rose Mignanelli, Larry moved to Warren on Labor Day weekend in 1992, 33 years ago. Larry attended Providence schools most of his life, graduating from Johnston High School when his family moved there. Larry went on to graduate from Roger Williams University and loved the East Bay. He met Jane Caizzi of Bristol/Warren at Healthtrax in East Providence. They been married for 37 years.

Larry started his career working for Prudential Insurance in East Providence where he achieved many acknowledgements and honors. He was recruited by USF&G Insurance Company, based out of Baltimore, MD, to be their representative in the RI/MA area. 35 years ago, his family called on him to be the 3rd generation Owner and Operator of Visco Weather Seal Products, an 80-year-old RI manufacturing company based in Johnston; a company proud to offer products made in the USA.

Larry was a true entrepreneur and inventor. He assisted numerous builders, architects, energy efficiency customers and solved many energy saving challenges, and also owns 2 US Patents. Operating Visco was Larry’s true passion and calling. He was brought up in his Grandfather’s businesses, Visco Products and Mt. Pleasant Poultry. Larry began his working career at a very young age and learned a tremendous amount from his Grandfather, Louis, Father, Larry and uncles, Fred, George and Lou.

In 2013 Larry was diagnosed with a form of Muscular Dystrophy Facioscapulohumeral Disease (FSHD). He passed away on the very weekend of the long running Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative, disabling disease with no cure. Larry did not let MD stop him, even as his condition took away his ability to walk, golf, and eventually stand. Larry, being the sports car and Harley-Davidson enthusiast that he was, began getting around on his collection of scooters. He treated them like they were Harleys and customized them in his way to make them sporty and unique.

In his neighborhood in Warren, everyone knows Larry as “the guy on the red scooter with the little black dog”. Larry was an inspiration in how he never let MD stop him from living his life to the fullest. He was an also an inspiration to his golf buddies by showing up on Tuesdays to his gold league, Amaral’s Putters, for 26 years, even after becoming scooter bound.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jane Caizzi-Viscolosi and his best friend Gabi. Larry has 2 sisters, Donna Boardman (John), Deborah Buonanno (Robert); his nephew and Operations Manager, Matthew Boardman (Amanda); his sister in law, Sarah Klein (Doug); brothers in law, Robert Caizzi (Judy) and Stephen P. Caizzi. Larry’s nieces and nephews who meant the world to him, Marisa, Robbie (Liana), Leticia (Andy), Jenna (Joe), Kaolin (Mason), Hannah (John), Sarah Jane (Joey), and Stephen M. Larry was the brother of the late Louis Viscolosi and his wife Karen.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI, 02885, where the family will receive relatives and guests for Visitation on Sunday, September 7, 2025 from 3-6PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 9-10AM followed immediately by a short prayer service at 10AM. Burial will be at North Burial Ground, 1081 Hope St. Bristol, RI 02809.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the FSH Muscular Dystrophy Society (www.fshsociety.org) or the Visiting Nurses Home Health and Hospice, Middletown, RI (www.visitingnursehh.org). The care Larry received in his final weeks was truly exceptional.

Chip and I attended LaSalle together. We both went there for two years and then transferred. But I remember 1970 when his parents first moved to Johnston Chip purchased his first minibike. It was a Honda. He and I would ride along what was then 295 being Built we had so much fun. I remembered me being rather cautious and Chip being rather daring. That was him later that yeah he was chasing me and his 1969 Bonneville I had a small feat zipping around corners. Chip was trying to catch me. I got into an accident. I think that was his first car accident. He was fine. I was fine but to this day we talk about that accident and have a good laugh I will miss my friend.

Larry was not only a dear friend but also someone whose passion and enthusiasm were truly infectious. Whether it was talking about cars, admiring fine watches, or sharing about his business, Larry had a way of lighting up every conversation with genuine excitement. We will miss our double-dates, his stories, the laughs, and the moments we shared. Larry will not be forgotten. Wishing you strength and peace during this difficult time. Much love to you Jane.
