Obituary For Lisa A. Whiting
Lisa (Aparicio) Whiting, 65, passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2026.
Born in Bristol, Rhode Island, Lisa was a lifelong resident before moving to Swansea, Massachusetts. She was the beloved wife of Kevin Whiting, with whom she shared 38 happy years of marriage.
Lisa was the loving mother of Matthew Whiting and his wife Chelsea, and Kayla Barrett and her husband Brian. Nothing brought Lisa greater joy than being Mimi to her five beloved grandchildren, Liam, James, Lillian, Sean, and Benjamin. Her grandchildren were truly the light of her life, and she made it a priority to spend as much time with them as possible. Whether she was attending a dance recital, cheering from the sidelines at a soccer or baseball game, or simply making an ordinary visit special, Lisa treasured every moment with them.
She is also survived by her brothers, Paul Aparicio and his wife Nelly, and Fredrick Aparicio and his wife Laurie. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Nancy (Hunter) Aparicio.
Lisa was a proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Class of 1982. She went on to build a successful career spanning more than 35 years in the field of Human Resources. Throughout her career, she worked for several Rhode Island companies, including Brooks Drugs, GTECH, and CVS Caremark. Lisa retired in 2022 as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.
Retirement was a chapter of life Lisa was greatly looking forward to sharing with her husband Kevin. She embraced it fully, remaining active and making the most of every opportunity to enjoy life. Together, Lisa and Kevin loved to travel and created many wonderful memories during trips to Florida, Portugal, and Martha’s Vineyard. They were eagerly looking forward to their upcoming travels to Italy and Greece next month.
Lisa loved staying active and spending time with her many friends. She enjoyed playing golf and pickleball and especially loved her part-time job at Swansea Country Club, where she made many new friends and lasting memories. She looked forward to weekend getaways to New Hampshire with the girls, beach trips, book club, and trying every new restaurant in town. Lisa was also a devoted New England Patriots fan and looked forward to football Sundays throughout the season. She loved putting together an elaborate opponent-themed spread for each game, making every Sunday a fun and delicious event for family and friends. Lisa had a gift for bringing people together and truly cherished the friendships she made throughout her life.
Lisa also knew her way around a kitchen. She loved preparing holiday meals and baking for those she loved. No one ever left Lisa’s house hungry—or without a plate of leftovers to take home. Sharing food, laughter, and time around the table with family and friends was one of the many ways she showed her love.
Above all else, Lisa loved her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, friend, and grandmother whose warmth, generosity, energy, and love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Lisa will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Though her passing leaves an unimaginable void, her light will continue to shine through her children, her grandchildren, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear. Her love, laughter, and spirit will remain with her family and friends forever.
Funeral arrangements are through Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI 02885 where the family will receive condolences on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Her funeral will begin from Smith Funeral & Memorial Services at 9:00 AM on Thursday, August 20, 2026 with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main Street, Warren at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private.

Dear Kevin, Paul, Fred and families, I am so sorry to hear the terribly sad news of Lisa's passing. We were next door neighbors on Fatima Drive during the 1980's. Such a beautiful family. Lisa babysat for our son Jeremy on many occasions. Her parents Fred and Nancy were great friends. Lisa was beautiful both inside and out. My husband Jim and I last saw Lisa a few years back with one of her grandchildren, how happy and proud she was. There are no words at a time like this, but please accept my sincere and heart felt condolences. Dorrie Hanson
