Obituary For Margaret Cook

MARGARET "BUNNY" HAMMOND COOK, 91, of Hope St., died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at home in Bristol.

She was the wife of the late Charles Olney Cook Jr. Born in Philadelphia, a daughter of the late Philip H. and Margaret Edwards Hammond, she had lived in many cities as a young woman before moving to Bristol in 1961.

Mrs. Cook was a direct descendant of Mayflower passengers John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley, and some of Bristol's earliest settlers, Jabez Gorham, M.A. DeWolf and Richard Smith.

She had worked many years ago at the Roger's Free Library, and was a former yarn-shop owner, where she taught knitting.

Mrs. Cook had volunteered for St. Michael Church, the Bristol Historical Society, the Bristol Art Museum, the National Cathedral Association, and the Friends of Linden Place.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, and knitting.

She leaves a son, Charles O. Cook III of Denver; three daughters, Margaret C. Montgomery of Santa Fe, N.M., Mary C. Millard, with whom she lived, and Catherine C. Holmstrom of Bristol; a sister, Chilton C. Johnson of Charleston, S.C.; and 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Phyllis H. Howard and Jane H. Carter.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Hope Street.
