Maria Gomes Vila Cha Pereira, 85, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 in her home in Warren. A daughter of the late Manuel and Palmira (Gomes) Vila Cha and the wife of the late Justino Pereira. Maria grew up in Samaioes, Portugal before moving to Warren with her family in 1975. Maria was a very devout Catholic and was a long-time parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, as well as a long-standing member of the Holy Ghost Society and the Church Choir. Her true passion was gardening. She could usually be found tending to her plants and would spend countless hours out in the garden. Maria also enjoyed sewing and would often make her own dresses and other articles of clothing for her family, often times by surprise. Most of all, Maria loved her family and taking care of her beloved grandchildren. Maria is survived by her three sons, Joseph L. Pereira and his significant other Betty of Bristol, Henrique Pereira and his wife Alicia of Barrington, and Paulo Pereira of Cumberland; her two daughters, Ivone Aubin and her husband Steven of Bristol and Maria Rocchio and her husband Peter of Narragansett; her two sisters, Margarida Lopes of Warren, RI, and Adozinda Alves of Warren, RI, her ten grandchildren, Justin Aubin, Sarah Aubin, Andrew Aubin, Matthew Rocchio, Brian Rocchio, Emma Pereira, Adam Pereira, Michael Pereira, Rachel Pereira and Austin Pereira. She was the sister of the late Silvino Vila Cha and Leopoldina Vila Cha. Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI, where the family will receive relatives and friends for Visitation on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 8-10AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM in St Thomas the Apostle Church, 500 Metacom Ave. Warren, RI.
