Mary J. (Lopes) Phillips, 85, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 in Providence, RI. She was the widow of the late Allen F. Phillips.

Born in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Georgia (Pongas) Lopes.

A proud homemaker, Mary dedicated her life to her six children and her family at large. She loved spending time with her family and her dog Louie with whom she spent 19 years with before her passing.

Mary is survived by her children: Sherry Abbenante, Dawn Abbenante, Allen Phillips (Delia), Desiree Phillips, and Wayne Phillips (Tabitha); her grandchildren: Nicholas Abbenante, Kyle Abbenante, Anthony Abbenante (Tayla), Alicia Abbenante, Kelsie Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Amanda LeClair (David), Mario Valente, Jr., Brook Phillips (Johnny Veleo); her siblings: Elizabeth Thibeault and Tony Lopes; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers; John and Edward Lopes.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI where family will receive friends Friday, March 13, 2026 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
