Obituary For Mary Theresa Whitman

Mary Theresa Whitman, 68 of Fall River, formerly of Portsmouth, RI died unexpectedly, Sunday, August 2, 2026. She was a daughter of the late John C. Pontieri and Eleanor Cronin. She was the beloved wife of Warren Whitman.
Mary was retired from the customer service industry. She was also a Navy Veteran.
Mary was a devoted grandmother whose love for her grandchildren was evident in all she did. She cherished every opportunity to be with them and would travel any distance to share in their lives.
Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Master Chief Timothy M. Whitman and his wife Sandy of Suffolk, VA and Kelly Marie Van Leeuwen and her husband Mathew of Swansea. She was the loving grandmother of Taylor Monte, Timothy Whitman, Caleb Hall, Jason Van Leeuwen, Bianca Cordeiro and Miarha Mill. She leaves her siblings, Patrick Pontieri, John Pontieri, Donna Turner and Ellen Jones all of SC. She was the mother of the late Scott M. Whitman
Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, where family will receive friends, Tuesday, August 18th 8:30- 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren. Burial will be Wednesday 11:30am in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA, with Military Honors.

I only had the privilege of meeting Mary once. However, she was very friendly with a beautiful heart that radiated when she smiled who clearly enjoyed helping others. My thoughts and prayers are with her daughter, Kelly, and family. Love, Debbie G.
