Obituary For Nora Rothwell Romano

Nora Rothwell Romano, a long time resident of North Scituate, passed away on March 21st at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband and high school sweetheart, Anthony R. Romano. She was the daughter of the late Harry Rothwell and Ann Corbett Rothwell and the sister of the late Alice E. O'Reilly.

Nora served her country honorably as a member of the Women's Air Corp in WWII. She retired as a senior claims examiner with the State of Rhode Island.

She was an accomplished artist and delighted in sharing her artwork with her family. In her later years, she and Tony worked together on projects in stained glass. One particular piece done in the 80's depicted a country road with a big red barn at the bottom of a hill. The piece eventually came to reside at their grandson's home some thirty years later and is, ironically, the exact view from his backyard.

She is survived by two children, her daughter, Kathleen Holmes and husband John of Bristol, RI, her son Lee Romano and his wife Susan of Dorset, Vermont. Three grandchildren, Dana Jorgensen of North Scituate, John Holmes III, of East Providence and Elizabeth Romano, of Boston and two great grandsons, Ethan and Aidan Jorgensen.

A funeral mass will be held on March 28th at 11 am at the Carmelite Monastery at 25 Watson Avenue in Barrington, RI., burial with Military Honors will follow in Highland Memorial Park, 1 Rhode Island Avenue, Johnston . In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Monastery.
