Norman J. Urban, Jr., 70, of Warren passed away peacefully in Providence on Sunday, August 23, 2026 surrounded by his family.

Norman was the son of the late Norman and Angelina (Phillips) Urban.

Norman spent most of his life in Warren, RI where he built his home and raised his son. Norman received his certification from Rhode Island School of Electronics in 1977 and went on to work as a driver for the Rhode Island Veterans Home for over 29 years until his retirement.

Norman was an avid softball player growing up and won multiple championships in Warren. When his son started playing sports he was a constant presence on the sidelines, never missing a game. In his later years he loved shopping and golfing with his son and spoiling his grandson. As a die-hard New England sports fan and collector, he took real pride in hunting down the best deals, especially when finding unique items for the people he loved. Norman could fix just about anything and he was always ready to lend a hand for his friends and family. Whether he was singing karaoke, enjoying a Black Russian, or simply sharing a story, Norman brought his big personality into every room he entered.

Norman is survived by his son: Eric J. Urban and his wife Lynsey Urban; his grandson: Wesley Norman Urban; his sisters: Elizabeth Gallinelli, Anne Czerwinski (Ernie), and Mary Rabideau; his sister-in-law: Sue; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Norman and Angelina; and his brothers: Walter, Vincent, and John Urban.

Funeral arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI where the family will receive family and friends on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at 10 AM on Friday, August 28, 2026 at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services. Burial will take place at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery.
