Obituary For Olive Gartner

Olive A. Baxter-Gartner, 89, of Bay Spring Avenue, Barrington, died Saturday October 16, 2004 at home.

She was the wife of the late John Baxter, and of the late Frank J. Gartner.

Born and raised in Providence, the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Ellen (McKeon) Harrington, she had moved to Colonial Avenue, in Barrington, when she was 10 years old, and had lived there until recently, when she moved to Bay Spring Avenue.

A 1933 graduate of Barrington High School, and a graduate of the former Bryant-Stratton Business College, now Bryant University, she was a member of the Bryant Alumni Council.

Mrs. Baxter-Gartner had been a secretary and billing clerk at the former Monroe Block & Co. Mfg. of Providence for 14 years, and a clerk in the credit department of Sears Roebuck & Co. for 29 1/2 years, before retiring in 1980.

She was a communicant of St. Alexander Church, in Warren, and a member of the Catholic Women's Club of Rhode Island.

Mrs. Baxter-Gartner had been active with the Girl Scouts for 10 years. She was a member of the Providence YWCA Business Girls Club, the Post CANA Club of Providence College, the Friar Front Court Club, the Mount Pleasant and Barrington Senior Citizen Clubs, and the St. Margaret Leisure Group.

She leaves three godchildren; two step-granddaughters; and four step-great-grandchildren. She was a sister of the late James Harrington.

Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket.
