Obituary For Robert Francis Tata

Robert Francis Tata of Warren, Rhode Island quietly passed into eternal life at his residence surrounded by family on Monday, February 9, 2026, concluding a beautifully fulfilled earthly existence spanning 95 years.

Born of the Depression Era on September 5, 1930 in Johnston, Rhode Island, to parents who immigrated from Europe as children themselves, he was the youngest of 6. It was in Warren where he met his beautiful wife Anne, and settled to raise their family.

A 1948 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School in Providence, Bob furthered his education in the study Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design, and Computer Science at Providence College. He possessed a lifelong, innate curiosity for all things technical.

In his professional life, Bob attained the designation of Registered Architect, and worked in that capacity for over four decades for firms that included T. Frederick Norton & Associates, Edward P. Denning & Associates and Keyes Associates. During that time, he devoted his professional expertise to the design of many schools, hospitals, churches, commercial and residential projects, as well as historical restorations throughout the New England region. He was a supporting member of The American Institute of Architects. After several years of retirement, he re-entered the workforce, alongside his daughter Karen, providing corporate support services to Textron, Inc.

Bob was an avid photographer, who enjoyed experimentation in depth and perspective, especially in B&W. He maintained a small collection of historically significant photographic equipment. Bob's interests also included automotive design and engineering, diving, gardening, nature and historical architecture and preservation. In his youth, his musical interests led him to the playing of the saxophone. He had acquired many life skills through Scouting.

The arrival of grandchildren brought Bob, affectionately nicknamed Oompa, a newfound outlet for his outpouring of love and affection. Five granddaughters, all born within a decade's time, assured that his golden years would be fulfilled with the joy of watching each of them grow and develop into strong and beautiful young women. Shopping trips, dining out and vacations spent together occupied much of his time. His grand-pup Ivy was a constant, faithful companion.

Throughout Bob's long and fruitful life, he always cherished his family above all else. Led by strong family-centered values, he provided boundless help and support in a loving, patient environment where he guided and taught through quiet example. His comedic witticism, together with his perpetually cheerful outlook on life, will be remembered by all who knew him.

Bob was the proud and loving father of two children, Randall D. Tata of Tampa, Florida who has survived him, along with his wife Debra and their daughters Rachel and Morgan. He is also survived by his devoted daughter Karen Tata Park of Bristol, Rhode Island and her daughters Olivia, Alexis and Abigail.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years Anne Emily (Reis) Tata, his parents Onofrio Tata and Agnes (Cormier) Tata, and his siblings Rosemary (DiJoseph) Langevin, Raymond V. Tata, Donald P. Tata, Madeline T. Theroux and Lorraine C. Gagnon.

Services will be conducted at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren RI 02885. There, the family will receive relatives and guests for visitation on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, from 5 PM to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 8 AM to 9 AM, followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main Street, Warren RI 02885. Burial is private.

I remember Bob and Anne from many years ago when they rented an apartment from my grandmother on Vernon Street. I was young and looked to look up to Bobs wife. May he RIP

My sincere condolences to Bob's family; I apologize for only just finding out that this wonderful man has passed. Bob became a dear friend of mine just over three years ago, and although he was unable to speak, I was immediately rewarded with the companionship of a truly kind, witty and gentle man. Bob and I enjoyed many outings to Colt State Park and area restaurants where we would take in the beautiful surroundings over cups of coffee. We also participated in crafts, such as drawing and pumpkin painting. Bob was a joy and a pleasure to know, and I will miss him dearly. Much love, Kate Carroll

Oompa, you were truly the best grandpa ever. Some of my favorite memories we shared were getting McDonald together, walking around the Swansea Mall, and spending every birthday and Christmas side by side. It means so much to me that we get to share the same eye color, it's like I get to carry a piece of you with me every single day. I love you so much ❤️

My condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Tata. The neighborhood was richer with him and his family in it. Although I didn't know him well, my brother was quite close to them, especially Randy and Karen. May he now rest in peace.

Sincerest condolences to Karen, Randall, all of Robert's granddaughters and extended family. I met Robert through his beloved daughter and my friend Karen. Although Robert was unable to speak in his latter years, his love and care for his family was evident in the love, care and support Karen and her daughters showered Robert with when he needed them most. May all the wonderful memories carry you through your mourning in peace and love!

Dear Oompa, Although I've told you so many times, I hope you can see this. I will forever cherish the moments we shared together and I am so glad I was able to be apart of your care. You taught me so much and helped me become the young adult I had always wished I'd become growing up. I will carry you in my heart everywhere I go. I wish we had more time together, but I know you're at peace now. I will never forget our lunches at McDonald's and how you were never a second late to pick me up from middle school everyday. You were my best buddy. We will be reunited one day, I love you❤️
