Obituary For Ruth Alice McDermott

Ruth (Lovely) McDermott, 91, of Bristol, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Franklin Court Assisted Living, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Edwin B. McDermott. Born in Attleboro, MA, a daughter of the late George F. and Katherine (Montague) Lovely, she was a life-long area resident, and graduate of Attleboro High School and the URI School of Library Science. Mrs. McDermott worked as a Library Assistant at the Deborah Cook Sales Public Library in Pawtucket for many years until her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Blackstone Valley Historical Society, the RI Historical Society, volunteered at the RI Veterans Home, served as a docent at the John Brown House in Providence, and was an active parishioner at St. Raymonds Church in Providence. She was a phenomenal cook, and enjoyed reading, gardening, serving on civic and church committees, and traveling with her late husband. She leaves behind a daughter Maureen McDermott of Louisville, KY, son Daniel McDermott and his wife Roberta of Bristol. Grandson, Joseph McDermott of Bristol. Great-grandchildren Owen, Liam, Noah and Jack, sons of Joseph McDermott and Hilary Grieve-McDermott. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Frank, Edward, Thomas, Joseph, James, Leo, and Mary Lovely. Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, where the family will receive friends Sunday November 24th from 3-7PM. Funeral Monday at 9AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Marys Church, Bristol. Burial in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Home and Hospice Care of RI 1085 N.
