Obituary For Sadie Gomes

On Saturday April 1st Sadie Conceicao Gomes, 102, was reunited with her late husband Antonio Gomes. She passed away surrounded by her loving family.

On March 27, 1915 Sadie was born to the late Manuel and Maria Medeiros in Relva, Azores, Portugal. She was the sister of the late Mary Ferreira and the late Emily Duchesne.

At the age of one her family immigrated to the United States. In 1932, amid the turmoil of the Great Depression her family was forced to return to Portugal. In 1967, after the death of her husband Sadie again immigrated to America; this time with her daughter Julieta. Sadie and Julieta settled in Bristol, Rhode Island.

During her time here Sadie grew to love the Boston Red Sox baseball team. She was an avid fan who rarely if ever missed a game. She would even stay awake into the wee hours of the morning to support them on their road trips to the west coast. In recognition of her dedication to the team her family had a brick at their historic home field Fenway Park engraved with her name.

Sadie is survived by her two children Hermano Gomes (Sara his wife) and Julieta Carreiro. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Gene Carreiro (Carol his wife), Debbie Carreiro Haltom (Eric her husband), Margarida Gomes, and Luis Gomes. She was immensely proud of her four great-grandchildren; Mariana Ormonde, Carolina Ormonde, Jack Haltom, and Brooke Haltom.

Sadie will be remembered by all who met her as a kind and loving soul. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that a donation by made in Sadies name to any charity or foundation of your choosing.

Calling Hours will be 4PM-7PM on Tuesday April 4th at Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI.
