Sarah S. (Palumbo) Sousa, 95, passed away peacefully on June 19th in North Kingstown, RI. Sarah was cared for by the warm-hearted staff at Roberts Health Care Centre in North Kingstown and HopeHealth Hospice and Palliative Care.

Sarah was predeceased by her first husband Vincent A. D’Allesandro and her second husband Joseph J. Sousa.

She was daughter of the late Dominic and Georgianna Palumbo of Warren, RI.

After suffering a childhood injury preventing her from attending school, Sarah went on to earn her GED in 1985 of which she was extremely proud.

For many years, she worked at the I. Shalom Co. in Warren alongside her sisters Eva and Mary. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren.

Sarah enjoyed RV camping with her husband, John, and traveled extensively along the East Coast. Often her grandchildren would accompany her on weekend adventures to local campgrounds providing her with lasting cherished memories. An avid Patriots fan she looked forward to Sunday afternoon games. She made the “occasional” trip to the casino and rarely came home empty handed. She looked forward to her weekly dinner get-togethers with her friends.

She will be fondly remembered for hosting her Italian Christmas Eve gatherings for family and friends.

She had an infectious smile, a great sense of humor and the innate ability to recognize when one of her grandchildren offered up a “tall tale”.

Sarah is survived by her three daughters, Elizabeth (Thomas) Holden, Rose (Joseph) McCarthy and Dawn (Anthony) O’Connors; her eight grandchildren Suzanne Holden, Stephanie Holden, Shannon Palamantes, Shawn Holden, Karen McCarthy, Kaitlin Dillon, Christopher O’Connors and Drew O’Connors, six great grandchildren Ayanna, Richard, Megan, Rory, Magnolia and Phoenix and two great great grandchildren Alynna and Arturo, who she adored.

She was predeceased by her five siblings Eva Almeida, Lily Mendes, Anna Ferri, Mary Wujick and Thomas Palumbo.

Sarah was laid to rest alongside her first husband, Vincent at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, RI
