Obituary For Veronica J. Motta

Veronica “Ronnie” J. (Vargas) Motta, 87, of Warren, RI, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 1, 2025. Born in Providence, RI, she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Souza) Vargas, and the beloved wife of 58 years to the late Joseph Motta. She lived in Fall River and Somerset, MA before moving to Warren 33 years ago.

Ronnie was a longtime member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. She worked as a Hairdresser for over 30 years and ran her own salon for many years. Ronnie was proud of her upbringing in Fox Point. Her love of dancing brought her and her husband together. She enjoyed going shopping, going out to eat and enjoying coffee ice cream any chance she had. Ronnie loved to vacation in New Hampshire and would often refer to the state as “God’s country”. Most of all, Ronnie loved the company of her family.

Ronnie is survived by her daughter, Valerie Latham and her husband Ross of Warren, RI; her brother, William Vargas of North Providence, RI; and her sister, Rita Mello of North Providence, RI. She was the sister of the late Daniel Vargas of Englewood, FL. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews.

Services are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Rd. Warren, RI 02885, where the family will receive guests and relatives for Visitation on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 8-9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 500 Metacom Ave. Warren, RI 02885. A Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, Riverside, RI 02915.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ronnie’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 Juse Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
