Obituary For Warren Bartlett Newell

Newell, Warren Bartlett 94, of Cranston, RI died Tuesday August 1, 2017.

Born in Newport, RI, he was the husband of Doris Priscilla (Smith) Newell and was the son of the late Edward and Hazel (Bartlett) Newell.

Warren worked as a machinist for Hoffacker, Brown and Sharpe, Gorhams and retired as a Foreman for New England Butt Company. Warren was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, Warwick RI and he enjoyed playing pool, dancing, camping, building and fixing almost anything.

Warren worked together with his wife Doris teaching dancing for many years. They met on the dance floor at the YMCA shortly after WWII. They were married for 65 years. Doris and Warren danced competitively winning many awards. They taught dancing until the age of 85 both in Rhode Island and Florida. They were in high demand at many retirement communities in the Fort Myers Beach area in Florida where they spent their winters for 30 years. In the summers they would be back in Cranston, Rhode Island.

Warren leaves a daughter, Christine Lindopp and her husband James Lindopp of Cranston, RI, two sons Craig Newell and his wife Joan Newell of Cranston, RI, Bruce Newell and his wife Pam Newell of Fishers, Indiana, a late sister, Audrey (Newell) Hathaway, seven Grandchildren, Kimberly Teolis of Winter Garden, FL, Matthew Newell of Seekonk, MA, Lauren (Newell) Martel of Bristol, RI, Timothy Newell of Cranston, RI, Mikaela Newell of Cranston, RI, Elizabeth Newell of Ann Arbor, MI and Andrew Newell of Fishers, IN and ten Great Grandchildren Victoria, Mackenzie, Sophia and Hunter Teolis, Madison and Makenna Newell, Cassidy, Ethan and Benjamin Martel, Adrianne Greene and several Nieces and Nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 11th at 10:00 AM at St. Barnabas Church, 3257 Post Road, Warwick, RI, with a reception immediately following in the church hall. Burial will be at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence with full military honors. Visiting hours have been respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Barnabas Church.
