Obituary For William A Hanley

Warren William A. Hanley, 90 of Warren, died Monday May 15 2017 at St. Elizabeth Manor, in Bristol. He was the husband of Gabrielle (Paquin) Hanley.

He was born in Warren, a son of the late John W. and Gertrude ( Dube) Hanley.

He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during WW II 1942-1945.

Mr. Hanley was a self- employed Contractor. Early on, he did remodeling of stores, then as William A Hanley & Associates he built several new medical buildings and additions to others, before becoming The House Doctor for many years. Prior to working construction, he was a jeweler with stores in Warren and Barrington.

A lifelong Warren resident, and active parishioner of St. Mary of the Bay Church.

Mr. Hanley was a life member of the Warren Fire Dept., Engine 1, Central.

He was the Director of Civil Defense in Warren 1956-1959.

Bill was a long time member of the Warren Democratic Committee, serving as Chairman at one time. Mr. Hanley also served on the Warren Planning Board for over 20 years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, William Atwood Hanley II, and Mary of Bristol, John W. Hanley and Jennifer of Warren, Diane Soares and Richard Bitwinski of Warren, Susan Medeiros and David of Bristol, Gabrielle Samson and Walter of Cranston, Julie A. Coelho and R. Shawn of Warren.

Mr. Hanley was the grandfather of Jennifer Rhynard, Stephanie Medeiros, , William, Michael, Greg, Megan, and Julie Hanley, Christine Bergeron, Christopher and Rebecca Samson, Jonathan and Shawn Coelho, Amy Docen, Jason DaSilva, Kayla Pelletier, Chistopher and Jonathan Bitwinski. Mr. Hanley was also the great grandfather of 18,"plus an expected set of twins".

He was the brother of the late Lt.Col. John D. Hanley, Gertrude Gagnon, Catherine Maudsley, Margaret Kussay.

Mr. Hanleys funeral will be held Friday May 19, 2017 at 8:30am from the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St, Warren. Burial with Military Honors will follow, St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon St.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours are Thursday from 4 8pm . In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the March of Dimes, RI/Southeastern MA. Market, 220 West Exchange St.,# 3, Providence RI, 02903. www.wjsmithfh.com
