Obituary For William "Bill" Joseph Whitty
William J. Whitty, 61, of Warren, RI, passed away on July 7th, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness.
Born in Lowell, MA, a son of the late William Arthur and Alberta (Choquette) Whitty.
He worked in banking his entire life. He began his career at Fleet National Bank and worked for various companies including Travelers Mortgage, Margaretten, Chase Manhattan, Landmark, and eventually became the President of Homestar Mortgage for the last 5 years. Bill believed in hard work and he achieved anything he set his mind to. He inspired many to do the same and served as a role-model and mentor to all who knew him. He faced lifes challenges head on and was a charming man who loved to help people reach their goal of home ownership.
Bill enjoyed life to its fullest! He travelled extensively with his family and close friends. He seized every opportunity and turned it into a life experience that was unforgettable. Among the many community organizations that Bill served, he was proud to be the President of RI Mortgage Bankers Assoc., Treasurer of The Mount Hope Farm, and President of the Bristol Foundation. In addition, he was an avid golfer and member of Montaup CC and K of C golf league.
Bill will be remembered by all for his quirky sense of humor, practical jokes, intelligence, work ethic and the love and support he gave to all.
Bill is survived by Renette, his beloved wife of 28 years, his son, William and wife Marita, daughter Stacy and husband Cary, grandchildren Alexander and Shawn, sisters Suzanne Samuels and Margaret Bergstrom and their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends who will miss him. Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Arthur and Robert, and sister Paula.
Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhousd, Warren, where the family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, July 10th. Funeral Thursday, July 11th,10am from the funeral home, 11am in St Michael's Church 399 Hope Street, Reverend David Lucy will be officiating.
