Obituary For William M. MacDougall
MacDougall, William M. (Willy, Bill, Mac) 75, of Warren passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family at the RI Veterans Home on May 7, 2020. Willy was the husband of Marilyn (Leigh) for 53 years. Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Warren J. and Anne F. (Rohrman) MacDougall. He lived the majority of his life in Laurel Park.
Father to two beloved children, Denise Languirand and her husband Paul of Barrington and Matthew MacDougall and his wife Lindsay of Ladera Ranch, CA. He was a proud and fun-loving grandfather to Will, Peter and Douglas Languirand and Nolan, Jack, Ryan, and Quinn MacDougall.
Willy is survived by his siblings Warren A, Peter, Charles, Paul, Duncan, Ann and Andrea. He was predeceased by his brother Michael. He was also a loving uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Willy always knew how to live life to the fullest. He graduated from Warren High School in 1962. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1963 to 1967 crossing the Pacific eight times. He served on the U.S.S. Tulare during the Vietnam conflict. Throughout his adult life, Willy served in many civic roles including: President of the LPIA, Warren Sewer Commissioner, Warren Town Councilman, Volunteer Fireman Central Fire Co. Engine 1, Washington Lodge #3 F.&A.M., and Elks Bristol County Lodge #1860.
With skills learned in shop class, Willy built two homes, a swimming pool and countless projects for family and friends. Willy will always be remembered for his love of singing the oldies, the 4th of July and his beloved shih-tzus.
After 23 years of service, Willy retired from UPS in 1995, affording him and Marilyn the opportunity and time to enjoy family, friends and much travel, along with a winter home in Florida.
Willy moved to the RI Veterans Home in 2017, where he made many friends. He was provided outstanding care by the staff there, to whom we are forever grateful.
Burial services will be private. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Memorial donations may be made to the RI Veterans Home Activity Fund, 480 Metacom Ave, Bristol, RI 02809.

I knew "Mac" for the past 3 years during his time at the Veterans Home while visiting my father there. I had the pleasure of spending many lunches with him. He was by far and without a doubt the most vibrant and spirited resident there and always put a smile on my face. Please accept my heartfelt condolences!

I am so sorry on the passing of Mr MacDougall. He was my buddy when I went to go visit my dad at the Veteran's Home. I loved sitting with Big Mac and talking to him or asking him to sing which he loved to do. He sang a great rendition of When Irish Eyes Are Smiling. He made me and my family laugh all the time. So Big Mac now that you are in heaven you can team up with my dad and belt out some songs together and cause a little trouble also. Will miss you Big Mac from your friend Big Guy!

Uncle Willy was one of the funniest people I knew. I would sit and watch as all the MacDougall siblings would sit and share stories and tell jokes and laugh and it was just the best times. Some of my fondest childhood memories are the family 4th of July parties, swimming in Uncle Willy's pool, and watching my Dad interact with his brothers and sisters. Although far apart, I always felt a strong connection to all of my MacDougall family members. Uncle Willy and my Dad shared a special bond, not only in looks, love of quahogs, their humor and their birthdays being 2 days apart, but also in their love and loyalty to their families. Aunt Marilyn, Denise, Matthew, I know how much you must be hurting and I understand too well. But somehow I feel solace, and hopefully you can too, that Uncle Willy has now joined my Dad up in Heaven and now they are our Guardian Angels looking down on us. I told Aunt Marilyn the day Uncle Willy passed, My Dad probably greeted him that night, with a Miller Lite in his hand and "In the Still of the Night" playing while they caught up and reminisced and laughed into the wee hours and joined Grampa and Gramma and all the others who passed before them. Uncle Willy will be missed dearly. I know you are proud of the man Uncle Willy was and I am proud to say that I was his niece. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace Uncle Willy, you deserve it. With love, Your Niece, Heather

Dear Marilyn, Jim and I were so sad to hear of Willy's passing. As we reminisce and think about about him, we will always remember the laughter. He always made anyone around him laugh and feel welcome, and that was a gift. Sincerely, Sue and Jim Arruda

I first met Willy and the other MacDougall clan when I arrived in Warren over 30 years ago. The MacDougalls were a tight knit family of strong valued typed people. Willy was the go to man, really down to earth kind of guy, a man's man that I got along with immediately. Being veterans, we shared very similar points of view. Whenever I saw WIlly, I could always count on a solid, strong hearty handshake followed by some spirited conversation about any topic. I'll miss those days.... RIP Willy.
